Injury time doesn't mean you have to stay OFF the game!

Whether you like it or not…which probably you do, Martial Arts is a full contact sport and unfortunately as with any sport you might sustain some injuries that put you off training for a while.   What should you do?

                                                        Listen to your body
www.cube-xtreme.com

Each injury is unique and it would be very stupid to say for all injuries rest or power through. Instead you have to be in harmony with your body and be able to listen to your body. So when Injured you can have basically two choices:
    A.      Give it Some rest if necessary
You don't want the small injury to become bigger or even permanent just because you didn't
rest it. Better to be out one week 100% than have to make an operation in the future or train
for 3 months but on 30%

      B.     Use intelligence to go through with it
Since injuries might be often i.e. ribs, fingers, toes, go more light when rolling, inform your
partners!! tape and keep the area of pain safeguarded, use some anti-inflammation cream

Keep your mind engaged with the sport
                 www.cube-xtreme.com
Go see the training even if you are not training.  Hellio Gracie started his Jiu Jitsu experience like this and look where it got him! When you are seeing the game & people spar, your mind is still engaging the art in a practical & technical level still whilst you are analyzing situations.

                                                                                                                                   Nutrition
www.cube-xtreme.com
It’s always important the type of fuel you put in your body when you train; even more important when you are going through an injury period.  Eat lean & balanced. Foods rich in vitamins & fibers (fruits & vegetables), proteins that help recover the muscles faster, healthy fats such as avocados, olive oil & nuts.  Looaadsss  & lloaddsss of water!

                                                      Flex  Yoga Meditation  Breathing
            www.cube-xtreme.com
Maybe you shouldn’t move or train at all, that is depending on the injury. But usually at least you could do some physio work out. These exercises are there to support the area that is injured and not stress it even more.  By flexing that area and letting it move & if possible combine YOGA with it as well, you can heal faster whilst practicing your breathing too!

If you can't really do any workout or flexing at all, then is the best period to train your breathing, train your mind & meditate on it!  Breathing control should be a very essential part of your game so is being able to keep your mind empty when you choose to!

Jiu-Jitsu Global Federation Competition Scorring Rules

This is from the official rule book of the of Jiu-Jitsu Global Federation.

I thought to grab some interesting highlights of the book with regards to Scoring & the Illegal Moves

Please do not be confused and think that this is the entire rulebook! Is only a reference/segment of the rules!
I give the info below on where to access the entire rulebook.

"5. SCORING
5.0.1 Points may only be declared once the competitor clearly shows control during a 3 second
count. Competitors must not be locked in a submission during the count. Competitors may earn
cumulative points with one movement (e.g. sweep & mount, etc.).
5.0.2 Competitors may only earn points for progressing in the match. Competitors earn nothing for
deliberately transitioning to an inferior position in order to score more points.

"

In Relation to Pulling Guard  from chapter 6

"
6.1.16 Pulling guard
6.1.16.1 A minor penalty is declared when a competitor pulls guard from the standing position more than one time
in a match without attempting a sweep, or submission within a 3 count. The match continues without
interruption, and the top competitor must still engage the bottom competitor.
6.1.16.2 No penalty is declared if a competitor pulls guard to recover after the opponent initiates a submission,
takedown, sweep, or other point-scoring move.
6.1.16.3 No penalty is declared if a competitor pulls guard to recover after the opponent defends a submission,
takedown, sweep, or other point-scoring move.
"

Illegal Techniques per belt & years

"

Please be aware that this is only a part/fraction of the rule book!
THESE IS NOT THE ENTIRE RULEBOOK as there are further details per chapter.

Lessons from Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu that can be applied to everyday Life

4 Simple Lessons that Jiu-Jitsu taught me for my EveryDay Life!

1.         When you face another person on the mat, that person might be like any other challenge in our everyday life and that is what is going to do, challenge you. You cannot run away from it, turn your back on it or try to ignore it or pretend that is not there, it will only makes things worst. So you learn how to face these challenges even if they might be considered as big ass problems! You learn to stay present, breath, focus and face the challenge!

2.         With Jiu-Jitsu I’ve learned that I might be free in my mind to choose my next move, but there will always be obstacles in the way. Someone that will be trying to block me in doing what I want to do & eventually what I want to achieve. Everyone is always going to have to overcome some situations to get where they want to be small or big, both will come your way one day or the other! We need to remember not to give up because even with the bigger the opponents,  the issue is not the actual size of the person or of the situation, but is how we carry it, how we react against it and what we do with it as long as we don’t give up. And giving up has nothing to do with winning but mostly being there ready to respond to the challenge with what we’ve got.

3.          Though we are free to make a choice for our next move, we are not free from its consequences. Training more can help realize this connection. For example moving this way or the other whilst sparring, we learn to foresee in what position we eventually end up.  Same for our everyday life, hopefully & ultimately we are always free to make a choice, though we are not free of its consequences. The way we move, affects our future, where we land & affects others as well.

4.          By training and sparing with various people you see lots of characters, psychologies and traits. I realized that indeed when you wear a Gi you can’t lie & you can't hide! You learn to recognize people for ultimately what they are and not what they wear or how they look! An eager person is an eager person regardless his brand of his Gi and so is a humble one, an aggressive one, a selfish one and a person that loves to share knowledge and use BJJ as science.

Kron Gracie Warrior!! - The Gracie Legacy Lives on...

Kron Gracie, lives and trains in L.A. nowadays

Maybe his moto would answer you that: "Stay Cool Under Pressure"

Son of Rickson Gracie, grandson of Helio Gracie,   yet he is being his own legend!

Kron is famous for sticking to the basics. He does use what he has to but his style is always stick and master the basics and not berimbolos and x-guards so much.

He is an aggressive competitor in the mat and always goes for the kill (tap) even if that means that he might loose by points.

He is known for have beaten several world champions such as Otavio Souza, Gilbert Durinho and Leandro Lo.

Eddie Bravo VS Royler Gracie 2003 ADCC original fight!

www.cube-xtreme.com

Here is the original footage from ADCC 2003 of Eddie Bravo VS Royler Gracie fight.

At the ADCC 2003 competition, Eddie Bravo fought the Legendary Royler Gracie and Won.  Eddie at the time was the underdog, so that victory came as a surprise to the BJJ community but even to himself as you sill see at the end of the video.

Nevertheless, that is the very essence of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

There are no underdogs, if you master the Jiu Jitsu techniques.

There is no weaker or stronger position.  No weaker or stronger opponent.

Still though for a rematch is scheduled for Metatmoris 3!
Both for the disbelievers that think Eddie's win was just by chance and on the other hand for the great Royler to prove him self once again.
